Manchester Access Programme applications are now open
The aim of Manchester Access Programme (MAP) is to inspire talented, local year 12 students to realise their full potential and benefit from an excellent university education, regardless of their background. Applications for our flagship access scheme are now open.
At Manchester we believe in equality of opportunity to access higher education for all. We recognise the barriers for students from backgrounds underrepresented at selective universities and are passionate about empowering students to overcome them and succeed.
Central to this is the Manchester Access Programme. MAP has run since 2006 and to date has helped over 2,000 local college students to progress to the University of Manchester.
Applicants who meet our academic and background criteria are supported to achieve entry to the University of Manchester, or another research-intensive university, through the completion of a portfolio of work demonstrating specific knowledge and skills.
There are three main benefits to MAP:
- Students will receive advice and guidance for their UCAS application and personal statement and will benefit from the opportunity of an early decision on their application (if applying for The University of Manchester).
- Students will receive the Undergraduate Access Scholarship (currently £1,000) in their first year of study at the University. Students with a household income of below £25,000 per year will receive the award for each year of their study.
- Students are eligible for a reduced offer of up to two A-level grades (or equivalent, depending on the qualifications studied) below the standard entry offer
MAP was successfully adapted to be delivered online in 2020 and we plan to deliver entirely online again in 2021.
Applications are open now and will close on 13th December at 11.59pm.
