WHO re-designation for Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute
The Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute (HCRI) has been re-designated as a World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre. Over the next two years, HCRI will work closely with colleagues at the WHO Headquarters in Geneva and Eastern Mediterranean and Africa regional offices to support programmes intended for developing health capacities in conflict and post-conflict contexts, through the provision of technical advice, research and conflict analysis. HCRI is a leading global centre for the study of humanitarianism and conflict response, global health, international disaster management and peacebuilding.
Collaborating centres are designated by the WHO’s Director-General to carry out activities in support of their programmes. Manchester was first designated as a collaborating centre in 2016 for their work with Emergency Medical Teams. The designation offers enhanced visibility and recognition for HCRI’s work and improved opportunities to exchange information and develop working relationships with more than 800 institutions in 80 countries who are also designated collaboration centres.
Through this collaboration, HCRI will provide technical input and advice to WHO in the following areas: conflict analysis, feedback and reports on proposed emergency health and peacebuilding programmes, as well as research papers on peace and health structures.
