No one left behind: supporting disadvantaged groups to adopt electric vehicles
The University’s Policy@Manchester will be hosting their next GM Policy Hub seminar on Wednesday, 12 November, which will focus on electric vehicle use in Greater Manchester.
Domestic transport is the UK’s largest source of emissions. It accounts for 28% of total emissions, with 89% of this coming from road vehicles. While electric vehicles (EVs) are central to decarbonising transport and helping Greater Manchester achieve its ambition to be carbon zero by 2038, for many households, especially those without off-street parking or living in deprived areas, EV ownership remains unfeasible.
At this seminar we will hear from Dr Helen Zheng, Senior lecturer in Spatial Planning in the University’s School of Environment, Education and Development. She will discuss her research which identifies priority areas for EV infrastructure in Greater Manchester (GM) using geospatial analysis and agent-based simulations.
The seminar discussion will be centred around how we can support a fair and effective rollout of EV infrastructure across Greater Manchester. However, while expanding charging infrastructure is a necessary step, it is not sufficient. Dr Zheng will also discuss how this work can fit with the broader public transport system across the city region.
The event will take place on Wednesday, 12 November, 1.00pm-2.30pm (with registration and light lunch from 12.30pm) at The University of Manchester (room confirmed on registration)
