Student Volunteering Week
Student Volunteering Week returns this February with the University offering a packed schedule of events designed to celebrate our student volunteers for all their amazing work over the past 12 months, including with their peers, in the local community and beyond.
One of the highlights of this year’s celebrations will include the return of Big Volunteer Day, our annual mass action volunteering event. Students will be returning to the Brunswick Estate in Ardwick, after last year’s successful event which saw 167 students turn out to make over a pocket park in Moss Side. This was a hugely rewarding day and has allowed residents to enjoy their green space again. We hope to build on these numbers, and are working with Ardwick Climate Action, Brunswick Church, and Medlock Primary School to deliver environmental improvement projects which will benefit residents, students and the local wildlife.
As well as Big Volunteer Day, students will be able to take part in a range of activities both on and off campus including a virtual community mapping project based in Uganda. They will also be able to find out about volunteer opportunities at the Students’ Union Get into Volunteering Fair. Fallowfield and Withington Foodbank will also be on campus to promote our new partnership project, Foodbank Champions. The project encourages students who have some spare time to think about joining a team of volunteers to support people who are having to make difficult choices between heating and eating due to the cost-of-living crisis.
In addition to volunteering activities, we will also be hosting information sessions about international volunteering opportunities and a drop in session about Stellify, enabling students to get their specific Stellify questions answered
Help us give shout outs to students who have volunteered this year by tagging our social media channels @uomvolunteering and spread the love for volunteering.
