Times Higher Education Awards 2024
The University of Manchester has once again demonstrated its leadership and excellence in higher education by securing two prestigious accolades at the 20th-anniversary edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards. Held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham, the ceremony celebrated the achievements of UK and Irish institutions during the 2022-23 academic year, with over 700 entries submitted.
Dubbed ‘the Oscars of higher education,’ the THE Awards recognise efforts that transform lives and communities. This year, The University of Manchester stood out among more than 70 institutions shortlisted across 19 categories, claiming top honours in two areas: Outstanding Support for Students and Research Project of the Year: STEM.
The University’s Students’ Union secured the award for Outstanding Support for Students, highlighting its unwavering commitment to prioritising the well-being and success of its student body. The University’s groundbreaking work in STEM was also celebrated, earning the prestigious Research Project of the Year: STEM award. This honour underscores Manchester’s pioneering contributions to science and innovation, reinforcing its position as a global leader in research.
John Gill, THE’s editor, said this year’s winners were: “Walking in the footprints of an incredible cohort of awards nominees stretching back 20 years,” adding that they demonstrated “even though times are tough, the creativity and energy in UK and Irish universities remain undiminished.”
