Universally Manchester Festival and our Community Fair – a spectacular success!

We are thrilled to share highlights from our bicentenary festival Universally Manchester, which celebrated 200 years of our remarkable history, from our inspirational people to life-changing discoveries and world firsts.

Over four unforgettable days (6-9 June), the University welcomed thousands of visitors to join us for imaginative and immersive events taking place across campus, and online. From entertaining talks, powerful performances, inspiring exhibitions, behind-the-scenes tours and family friendly workshops and activities, there was something for everyone!

Whether making the most of a wellbeing workshop, crafting lanterns, exploring the wonders of the Universe at the packed-out Brian Cox lecture or enjoying a dance at Mr Wilson’s Second Liners, it was a celebration to remember.

The support of our festival partners Manchester City Council, Transport for Greater Manchester, Creative Manchester, Factory International, In Place of War, Manchester Museum, the Whitworth and the Students Union of the University of Manchester was key to our success.

Our annual Community Fair was part of the University’s bicentennial celebrations this year. On Saturday 8 June, we welcomed thousands of staff, students, alumni and people from our local and wider communities onto campus to find out all about our research, learning and cultural work. This free day was jam-packed with fun activities for all the family, including interactive demonstrations, musical and drama performances, and behind the scenes tours.

Dee-Ann Johnson, Public Engagement Manager, said, “The Community Fair is a great way for people to explore our campus, find out what we do and why, and have fun! We welcome people of all ages from across Greater Manchester and beyond to be inspired and to inspire us in all our work.”

And this sentiment is echoed by all of our staff, students and community partners who were involved in coordinating and delivering the festival providing a friendly, inclusive, and enjoyable day for all ages.
