Major award recognises social responsibility leadership

Dr Julian Skyrme, Director for Social Responsibility, took home the Institute of Directors North West Award for Corporate Social Responsibility at a ceremony last week.

The award recognises leaders who can demonstrate how they integrate the success and smooth running of their business with a strong sense of responsibility and consideration for their role as a corporate citizen, and is entered by some of the region’s largest companies.

“Getting this award is great recognition for our University’s commitment to – and success on – social responsibility,” said Julian.

“At a time when universities are under increased public scrutiny it’s particularly pleasing that a University can be recognised for its positive impact on society among some of the North West’s most important stakeholders.”

Vice President for Social Responsibility Professor James Thompson said: “Julian and his team have transformed the approach the University has to social responsibility and this award is richly deserved. As a University which educates thousands of people every year and with links to other organisations around the world, it is incredibly important that we act in a responsible way and Julian is at the forefront of these efforts.”
