Student Inspire Network

The Student Inspire Network (SIN) is a new and exciting project developed by students at The University of Manchester. The Network aims to improve access to careers information for all students but particularly those from BAME backgrounds. Motivated by the importance of fair access to higher education for all groups of society, students act as positive role models for their peers, drawing on their own experience and using their networks to widen the reach of their messages. SIN intends to fill a gap in the knowledge of young people looking to get more out of their university experience. They provide engaging, relevant content targeted at millennials that informs users of career-based opportunities such as placements and internships, as well as broader content surrounding student life.

SIN was established to change the way people view careers. Since launching a year ago, videos produced by the Network have gone on to reach over one million students. Each month, their content reaches over 90,000 students across the country with one-fifth of these being in Manchester alone.

The Network understands the importance of embracing technology. SIN provides a range of video content across all social media platforms, aiming to provide information not readily available elsewhere in a digestible and entertaining format. The videos offer insights into companies such as BP, Google and JP Morgan, meaning SIN is an ideal place to get an understanding of how to get your foot in the door at some of the world’s top companies.

The Network has also developed an innovative approach to accessing careers information through Virtual Reality (VR). By harnessing this technology, students can step into the worlds of finance, banking, journalism and other industries. By partnering with companies across the globe, SIN aims to use VR to immerse students in these companies with content such as office tours and practice interviews, providing students with the opportunities to explore these organisations.

The Student Inspire Network were commended at the NEON Awards earlier this year and were also highly commended at the University’s Making a Difference Awards.
