In 2017, Cheltenham Science Festival will be creating our first onsite makespace, the MakerShack, which will bring engineers, scientists, and makers together to inspire the public to explore the material world and discover the joy of making.
We are looking for graduate engineers and researchers working in astronomy and astrophysics who are passionate about materials and making to join us in the MakerShack, to help us develop and deliver a range of hands-on interactive activities for the general public. As part of this, we are offering free training in public engagement.
Apply to join us in the MakerShack at the Cheltenham Science Festival and share your expertise and passion with our audience.
ENGINEERS: The Cheltenham Science Festival, with support from the Royal Academy of Engineering, is offering 20 engineers a unique opportunity to develop and practice their engagement and communication skills at the Festival in June.

We will offer practical training in communication skills, focusing on the skills needed to engage with small groups through hands-on activities. Our experienced trainers will work with you to curate a drop-in, making-focused station for both children and adults that you will run during the Festival. Alongside this fantastic opportunity, you will have the chance to attend events and network with world-class engineers, scientists and performers at one of the UK’s leading science festivals.
You must be over 21 and a qualified engineer working or engaged in postgraduate study in the UK
You don’t need any experience of talking to the public, but we would like to see evidence that you’re interested in public engagement.
