Don’t miss the first three episodes in our Talk 200 series which shine a light on The University of Manchester’s major contributions to health inequalities, addressing energy challenges and boosting regional economic growth.
Talk 200 is the new lecture and podcast series from The University of Manchester to mark our bicentenary: 200 years of making a difference. Throughout the year we’re reflecting on our past, celebrating our present and looking to the future – and Talk 200 invites listeners to be part of the journey.
In the first episode, Professor Chris Whitty discusses the University’s role in understanding health disparities, particularly linking poverty to certain cancers, stating, “The University of Manchester has over many years contributed so much to our understanding of both the epidemiology and the treatment of cancers.”
In the second episode, Professor Alice Larkin, Dr Aneeqa Khan, and student Aidan Rhode explore energy and climate change challenges. They discuss the urgent need for rapid carbon emission reductions and the University’s interdisciplinary approach to developing sustainable energy solutions.
The third episode features Professors Richard Jones and Aline Miller, who highlight the University’s rich history of innovation, including early nuclear energy breakthroughs and the isolation of graphene. They emphasise the University’s efforts to drive regional economic growth, with a focus on supporting start-ups and collaborating with local businesses.
The series comprises a mix of in-person and live-streamed lectures and recorded podcast episodes. Our podcast host, Manchester aficionado, author and University of Manchester alumnus Andy Spinoza, is joined by a diverse line-up of guests from our community. Upcoming topics include creative and culture, digital and AI, and equality and justice.
