Announcing our partnership with JOGON

JOGON logoSport at the University of Manchester have announced a partnership with JOGON.

Over 30+ million pairs of shoes end up in landfill every year and the aim of the project is to reduce this number. Where possible the scheme enables the reuse of unwanted shoes by giving them to those in need, through distribution by partners in 11 hubs around the world. Where reuse is not an option the shoes are shredded and their remains reused for other purposes.

There are now two collection points across our campus for staff and student to drop-off their old or unused trainers :

  1. The ‘Want not Waste’ shop between the Academy and the Student Union is open 10am until 2pm Monday – Friday
  2. The Armitage Sports Centre in Fallowfield, which is open 7 days a week.

For anyone who wishes to drop of their trainer, all they need to do is tie the shoes together by the laces or if not laces, use a cord or elastic band and then place them in one of these collection points. The University and JOGON will do the rest

JOGON are hoping the partnership will lead to more sites across Manchester joining in the scheme so why not ask your local gym, sports centre or sports club if they want to get involved.
