Decarbonising domestic heating
On Thursday, 5 December, the University’s GM Policy Hub will host a seminar on decarbonising domestic heating. As the University’s policy engagement institute, Policy@Manchester connects researchers with policymakers and influencers, fosters long-term policy engagement relationships, and aims to enhance stakeholders’ understanding of pressing policy challenges.
Decarbonising domestic heating is crucial, yet UK policy currently falls short of the standards needed to reduce carbon emissions and build resilience in housing stock for a changing climate. Designing adaptable buildings that meet evolving lifestyle and climate demands will be essential for ensuring future generational resilience to climate change in the UK and beyond.
The government plans to boost minimum energy efficiency standards for private and social rented homes to achieve Energy Performance Certificate rating of C or equivalent by 2030. How can this be achieved at a local level, and what is needed to ensure new housing and retrofitting will provide the necessary resilience?
Join us for this seminar to hear insights from Claire Brown, Postdoctoral Research Associate in Truly Affordable Net Zero Homes at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, and Anees Mank, Programme and Policy Lead (Retrofit) at Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
The in-person event will take place at the University on Thursday, 5 December at 1-2:30pm (with registration and a light lunch from 12.30pm).
