External relations win for policy@manchester

An initiative to increase the policy impact of our research has scooped External Relations Programme of the Year in the Educate North Awards.

Members of the team – Professor Andrew Westwood (AVP Public Affairs and co-Director); Alex Waddington (Engagement Manager) and Jane Bevan (Communications and Events Officer) attended The Hilton Hotel in Manchester, for the awards, which celebrate and recognise best practice and excellence in the education sector in the North.

The glittering evening ceremony was attended by key figures from the region’s further and higher education world, and in the face of stiff competition, policy@manchester scooped first prize.

policy@manchester is based in the Faculty of Humanities, but works with researchers right across the University to help them engage with and influence policymakers. Since the initiative was founded by Professor Colin Talbot in 2012, it has been instrumental in bringing key policy influencers to the University, and for achieving better engagement with Parliamentary Select Committees and local and national government policy decisions.
