Former medical student among Women of the Year
Dr Vicky Wijeratne, a former student of The University of Manchester currently working as a junior doctor at Stepping Hill, was honoured at an award ceremony commemorating the contributions made by people following the Manchester Arena attack.
Vicky was attending the Ariana Grande concert in May when the attack happened, and immediately rushed to the aid of many severely injured people, staying until every injured person had been taken to the hospital at 3.00am.
Vicky attended the ‘Women of the Year’ ceremony in London on October 16, where she and a group of 8 women from the emergency and medical services were awarded on behalf of each and every woman serving in the police, ambulance and health services up and down the UK.
The award was presented by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and the event was attended by many celebrities including comedienne Sandi Toksvig, Great British Bake Off’s Prue Leith and Game of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer.
