MICRA researchers author Policy blog on COVID-19 and age inequality
Professor Chris Phillipson of Manchester Institute for Collaborative Research on Ageing (MICRA) along with Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group (MUARG) Director Tine Buffel, Patty Doran, Sophie Yarker and Camilla Lewis have put together the latest Policy@Manchester blog on inequality, older people and COVID-19.
They argue for a new community development policy to assist the most deprived neighbourhoods in the UK. The policy will need to comprise of funding, locally-based partnerships, and the challenging of discrimination.
Given the risk for greater age segregation occurring as a result of COVID-19, the blog states that it is essential to foster contact between generations, challenge ageist stereotypes, and highlight the diversity of experiences in later life.
