University Construction Community Fund

The University of Manchester and its main construction partners – Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke and Sir Robert McAlpine – have established a £20,000 fund to support neighbourhood initiatives in areas closest to the University’s construction sites around Oxford Road and near Owens Park, Wilmslow Road.

The fund is open to established non-profit groups, voluntary groups and other community groups, as well as groups of residents and community members working together for the first time. It aims to fund initiatives that benefit communities by supporting community cohesion and social inclusion; improving health and wellbeing; supporting people to develop their full educational and employment potential; and using the arts, science or culture to promote understanding and participation in communities.

There are two categories of funding: small awards for amounts up to £500 which are awarded five times a year and large awards for amounts between £500-£2,000 awarded twice a year.

The first round of funds has recently been awarded and the next deadlines for applications are 1 February 2018 for small awards and 1 March 2018 for large awards. Further guidance and an application form can be found on the University’s social responsibility web site.
