Volunteer of the Year Awards 2019
The annual University Volunteer of the Year Awards took place in the Whitworth Hall on 2 May 2019. The event celebrates the volunteering of staff, student and alumni of the University. Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, President and Vice Chancellor, gave out the Awards. The overall winners in each category also received the University Medal for Social Responsibility, part of the suite of established President’s Distinguished Achievement Awards. The awards also saw the awarding of the Social Justice Photography Competition. All undergraduate students at the University were invited to take part in the competition by submitting a photo and caption about an issue of social justice that matters to them.
Students, staff and the general public were invited to vote for their favourite photograph, with 6,380 votes being cast – more than twice as many as last year. The grand prize was awarded to Paul Famutimi-Dickson from the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering for his photo ‘Shades.’
