Student-led conference imagines the future of sustainable healthcare

In March 2026, the University of Manchester will host its first ever student-led conference on sustainable futures in healthcare. Through talks, workshops and immersive exhibitions, this conference will explore the challenges that healthcare will face in a changing climate – and how global health systems of the future can adapt.

This conference comes at a crucial time. Climate change has a profound impact on health and wellbeing, which in turn increases pressure on health systems. The healthcare systems of the future must adapt to these new challenges, as well as tackling their own carbon footprints.

Challenges like this require interdisciplinary problem solving at every level. Each sector of healthcare has an opportunity to make a difference, and this conference will bring together students from across the University to share ideas. A series of exhibitions will showcase these diverse areas: from health technology and low-carbon infrastructure, to nutrition and policy.

What can you expect from the conference?

  • Build your knowledge with insightful talks, exhibitions and workshops.
  • Collaborate and engage, networking with students from across the University and engaging with the wider community.
  • Think creatively and use your problem solving skills to brainstorm innovative solutions to the challenges presented by climate change.

Save the date for the University’s first student-led sustainability in healthcare conference: 21 March 2026, at University Place, the University of Manchester.

Getting involved offers the opportunity to start long-term projects and join a network of students who are passionate about sustainability.
