The University of Manchester: A University of Sanctuary explored
Did you know, the University of Manchester is a University of Sanctuary?
Universities of Sanctuary is a national network of university staff, lecturers, academics and students. They are working to make Higher Education institutions places of safety, solidarity and empowerment for people seeking sanctuary.
As part of Refugee Week 2026, The University of Manchester is hosting an event on campus for University of Manchester staff and students on 18 June 1 – 2pm, please join us to learn more about what being a University of Sanctuary means for the University of Manchester.
You can hear from our panel, including an Academic working in the field of Sanctuary Research, colleagues from our Cultural Institutions – the Manchester Museum and The Whitworth – who will share their work with local Sanctuary Communities, as well as hearing from some of our current students. Chaired by Dr Julian Skyrme, Executive Director of Social Responsibility, this session is open to all to listen, learn and discuss ongoing work in this area.
We’re also delighted to welcome local charities and organisations who are keen to collaborate with University of Manchester staff in their work. Come along to learn more, get involved, and be part of the conversation
