January’s round-up from the Director of Social Responsibility
Over the festive season a number of achievements and milestones for social responsibility have been celebrated.
University Construction Community Fund
The University of Manchester and its main construction partners – Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke and Sir Robert McAlpine – have established a £20,000 fund to support neighbourhood initiatives in areas closest to the University’s construction sites around Oxford Road and near Owens Park, Wilmslow Road.
Get involved in the Great Manchester Run
This year’s Great Manchester Run takes place on Sunday, 20 May and includes a 10k and ½ Marathon.
Volunteer of the Year Award

FSE Better World Showcase
The Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) is holding its third annual Better World Showcase to recognise and communicate the outstanding social responsibility activities across the Faculty and to celebrate the efforts of staff and students who are making a difference.
Commission for Racial Equality publications now online
The Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre, based in Manchester’s Central Library, received a collection of publications from the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) which, following a comprehensive digitisation project, are now available to everyone online via the Library’s digital image platform Luna.
LGBT History Month
LGBT History Month has been marked in the UK since 2005 and at the University we have held events every February since 2010.
