The University’s School of Social Sciences is pleased to announce that this year’s Arthur Lewis Lecture is to be given by Sir Tom Shakespeare, Professor of Disability Research in the medical faculty at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Emergency Medicine expert named Young Researcher of the Year

The University of Manchester’s Dr Anisa Jafar has been named as Young Researcher of the Year by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) and the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM), for her commitment to Global Health and Emergency Research and for being an excellent role model for young researchers.

Making LGBTQ+ History visible in the school curriculum

Whilst there is much discourse within the teaching community about the importance of an inclusive curriculum for History, there seems to be a consensus that many attempts to address LGBTQ+ History are tokenistic at best, and that this is an area that requires development for schools.

Abandoned bikes donated to charity

The University has donated around 80 bikes abandoned across campus this year to local charities who refurbish them to either sell at affordable prices, or provide for no cost to those who most need them.
