Student Volunteering Week

After last year’s online programme, the University's Student Volunteering Week is returning this year with a jam-packed schedule of volunteering events and activities to celebrate student volunteering in all its glory.

Since the start of the academic year, our volunteering team have been tracking student volunteering hours and the incredible impact our students make. As a key focus of the Student Volunteering Week, the volunteering team and Students’ Union are encouraging all students to take part in activities and log their volunteering on our Volunteer Hub, to reach a target of 15,000 hours. Throughout the week, the Students’ Union will have a totalizer on display to count-up the hours and show the difference our student volunteers are having in the community.

One of the highlights of this year’s celebrations will include the return of Big Volunteer Day - a mass action volunteering event. This project will give hundreds of students the opportunity to makeover Ossory Street Pocket Park in Moss Side and collectively help local older residents to enjoy their green space again.

As well as Big Volunteer Day, students will also be able to take part in a range of activities. They can create cheerful post which will be sent to ill children via the charity Post Pals, take part in a virtual community mapping project based in Uganda and find a volunteer opportunity at the Students’ Union ‘Get Into Volunteering Fair.’ In addition to volunteering activities, the event will also be hosting information sessions with our international volunteering partners and colleagues who work on our Stellify initiative.

Please give a shout out to any student who has volunteered this year by tagging them and our social media channel (@uomvolunteering) and spread the love for volunteering.
