Social Responsibility Scholars aiming to make long-term difference
The Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS) has reinforced its commitment to the University’s core goal of social responsibility, particularly socially-responsible graduates, by awarding scholarships to 10 undergraduate students. Each year, undergraduates applying for a place on an AMBS degree programme are eligible to apply for a social responsibility scholarship. This awards academic attainment alongside involvement in, for example, charity work, community-based projects, fundraising activities and volunteering opportunities.
Dr. Eva Niesten, Director for Social Responsibility, praised this year’s cohort and commented on how she is looking forward to making a difference with them: “The Social Responsibility Scholarships support exceptional students who have made a positive contribution to society, the environment and local communities. The winners of the scholarships have outlined their plans for volunteering, fundraising and community-based projects during their time at Alliance MBS. I am looking forward to working with them in the future on making the world a better place.”
A number of the 2019/20 Scholars commented on their awards and outlined their appreciation and plans.
“As a Stellar Scholar, I have been recognised for my past hard work and my previous endeavours, however, I also see this as a recognition of my potential to do even more in the future”, said Vardnan Sivarajah. “I chose to study at AMBS because of the very unique ITMB course. It enables me to dive into my two most passionate fields of study, business and technology, while also being oriented towards solving real complex problems, as it is co-created with industry-leading companies. And the latter is of importance to me since my goal in life is to contribute to solving the greatest challenges facing our world.”
Megan Jones added: “To me, the scholarship means being able to focus more on my studies and with volunteering within the local community. I chose AMBS due to the amazing facilities and opportunities on offer as well as how diverse the University is, which represents the city on a whole.”
Neha Mohile also showed her appreciation: “I cannot be more grateful and thankful for receiving the Social Responsibility Scholarship,” she said. It encourages me to continue my pursuit in being more socially responsible and raise awareness regarding Sustainable Development.”
