Student Volunteering Week: Monday 10 to Sunday 16 February 2025
Student Volunteering Week is back for 2025!
Student Volunteering Week is a joint initiative between the University of Manchester’s Volunteering and Awards Team and the Students’ Union. It aims to celebrate our student volunteers for all their amazing work over the past 12 months, including with their peers, in the local community and beyond.
One of the highlights of Student Volunteering Week is Big Volunteer Day, our annual mass action volunteering event. This year we return to Ardwick, working in partnership with Ardwick Climate Action to spruce up areas around Kale Street and the Mancunian Way. Students will be working to improve the biodiversity of the area and making it cleaner and greener for the residents. This includes planting hedges, lavender, bulbs and other plants, as well as building and installing bird boxes.
Throughout the week we have a variety of activities available for students to get involved in. This includes volunteer taster events with Friends of Mauldeth Road Station and Ladybarn Community Hub; opportunities to find out all about volunteering overseas; and a chance to pack boxes with the student-led project Once a Month, to support people facing period poverty.
As well as a busy week of volunteering activities, students will be able to go along to the Students’ Union Get into Volunteering Fair to find out about more volunteering opportunities available to them. We will also be hosting a Stellify drop-in to answer any student questions and help as many people as possible achieve the award.
Help us give shout outs to students who have volunteered this year by tagging our social media channels @uomvolunteering and spread the love for volunteering.
