In acknowledgment of World Antibiotic Awareness Week (12-18 November) and European Antibiotic Awareness Day, students from across all three University Faculties, led by the School of Health Sciences, delivered a fantastic week of events on the theme of ‘One student, one campus, one world’.

Led by The University of Manchester and delivered by the Growth Company, The Works helps support local people to find jobs, develop skills and provides access training and is now celebrating placing the 4,000th person into employment.

Human Geography lecturer Dr Sarah Marie Hall has won the inaugural Jo Cox Prize for Public Service and Active Citizenship, to recognise the positive impacts of her research.

Congratulations go to Sheena Cruickshank, Academic Lead for Public Engagement with Research who was promoted to Professor of Public Engagement and Biomedical Sciences at the end of 2017.

On 28 November the world celebrated #GivingTuesday, an international day to do ‘good stuff’, to recognise what is already being done and to encourage people to consider giving time, money or skills to support a worthwhile cause.

On Thursday 23 November, the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute (HCRI) held their annual Landmark Lecture, which provides a platform for discussion on topics relating to humanitarianism and disaster management.

Dr Vicky Wijeratne, a former student of The University of Manchester currently working as a junior doctor at Stepping Hill, was honoured at an award ceremony commemorating the contributions made by people following the Manchester Arena attack.
