Call for activities for ScienceX 2020

by | Sep 27, 2019

Once again, ScienceX will be taking over Manchester’s intu Trafford Centre for a weekend-long science extravaganza. With the help of staff and students in FSE, ScienceX takes science, engineering and research to the general public at this popular venue. Here we are able to engage with a larger and more diverse audience than usual – thousands of people of various ages, ethnicities and levels of higher education experience. We want to enthuse people about the exciting research going on at Manchester, particularly those who wouldn’t usually seek out or attend a science festival.

We want to put on a range of activities and exhibits large and small, and are therefore asking for expressions of interest and availability for the weekend. The activities we put on as part of ScienceX need to be fun, engaging and should make scientific research accessible for all. We are particularly interested in new activities, those that will draw people to the Trafford Centre, and those that are suitable for a young audience (age 4-11). We hope to appeal to families with younger children, which will hopefully mean engaging their parents with science and engineering too.

If you are in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, or you have collaborators in the Faculty and would like to run an activity at ScienceX on 18-19 April 2020 at intu Trafford Centre, please complete the attached expression of interest form (doc) and return it to the Faculty Social Responsibility Team at fsesocialresponsibility@manchester.ac.uk by Friday 15th November 2019. We will then discuss the proposed activities with the team at the Trafford Centre.

Guidance to keep in mind when thinking about your activity and returning your expression of interest can be found in the attached document as well.

We will do our best to fit in as many of the activities offered as possible and we hope that all Departments and many of our research institutes will be represented as has been the case in previous years.

Thank you in advance for your help and we look forward to working with you on this exciting event again.
