Raise your research profile through UoM’s Climate Questions campaign

We are looking for academics and early career researchers, keen to get involved in activities to support our Climate Questions campaign.

This autumn, The University of Manchester will launch a communications campaign to showcase our role at the forefront of the climate crisis.

Central to this campaign will be communicating how our innovative, interdisciplinary approach to research is addressing the global challenge and driving real-world impact.

Designed to engage policymakers, industry and international academics pre- and post-COP26, this research-focused activity provides an opportunity to help raise your profile and drive increased awareness and engagement with current and recent projects.

Designed to engage policymakers, industry and international academics pre- and post-COP26, this research-focused activity provides an opportunity to help raise your profile and drive increased awareness and engagement with current and recent projects.

We are looking for academics keen to get involved through the following activities:

  • Promotion of new research – As part of the campaign, the marketing managers for the advanced materials, biotechnology, energy and global inequalities research beacons will be proactively developing communications campaigns around climate-related research due for autumn publication. If you have a research output due out in the autumn, or would like help promoting a recent project, and are interested in exploring how to amplify awareness, get involved here.
  • The University of Manchester’s Festival of Climate Action – The University is hosting a four-day programme of online talks (4 to 7 October 2021), showcasing the latest thinking and most relevant research in the run-up to COP26. Centred around the four COP26 goals – mitigation, adaptation, finance and collaboration – the festival will provide policymakers, industry decision makers, academics, students and members of the public with a programme of talks that will share the insight and innovation they require to turn ambition into real world impact. If you are interested in hosting an online event, know who you want to engage and why they would be interested, and you are happy to help organise co-panellists and market the event to your networks, get involved here.
  • Reactive media commentary – We are looking for academics happy to offer reactive commentary in response to topical news and reports. Opportunities will be emailed/text to you, often at late notice, so we are looking for spokespeople who are happy to respond very quickly and provide written (for online and print media) and/or filmed (for TV) or recorded (for radio) commentary. If you are interested, get in touch here. We can provide media training to anyone who needs it.
  • Promoting your insight, digitally – The campaign will take a digital-first approach while face-to-face engagement remains uncertain. But this provides an opportunity to engage audiences, key for your research, through the following.
    – By creating 2-3 minute fast lectures on their research (what it is and its impact)
    – By hosting Instagram and Reddit ‘ask me anything’ live sessions.

Full briefs will be provided. This is a great opportunity for PHD researchers and early career academics as well as established academics.
