Our top five stories in May

May has seen a wide range of celebrations and recognition across our University.

We hosted the 10th annual Making a Difference Awards to celebrate the inspiring social responsibility achievements of our staff, students, alumni and external partners. Over 120 entries were submitted this year with judges recognising 17 winners and 22 highly commended.

The Masood Entrepreneurship Centre hosted their annual Venture Further Awards, the UK’s leading university-led start-up competition, celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit within our University community.

We celebrated a range of exceptional students at this year’s Volunteer of the Year Awards. The winners and nominees of the 2024 awards displayed outstanding commitment, leadership, and innovation in their volunteering activities.

Manchester Museum has been unveiled as one of five finalists for Art Fund Museum of the Year 2024, the world’s largest museum prize.

Finally, we are pleased to announce that we have been awarded the prestigious title of University of the Year at this year’s Educate North Awards. The recognition comes during our Bicentenary year and is a testament to two centuries of outstanding contributions in learning, innovation, and research, cementing our position as a global leader in higher education.
