10,000 Actions

10,000 Actions aims to provide all 10,000+ members of University staff with the opportunity to engage in a programme of learning and positive action on sustainability.

Developed at The University of Manchester, 10,000 Actions is the UK’s largest environmental sustainability initiative for staff in higher education. Many things our staff do in work are already contributing to a more sustainable society. 10,000 Actions supports them to do even more by giving them the chance to learn and take action on sustainability in The University of Manchester.

An online tool has been developed for University staff, based on the University’s own research and experience, to enable all staff to develop a personal sustainability action plan. We’ve also made an online tool made available to our 8,000 suppliers to encourage them to reflect on their own sustainability practices.

In addition to 10,000 Actions, we’ve brought staff on this journey through participation in the national Green Impact scheme for teams of staff and students, and the establishment of the University Campus as a ‘living lab’ for teaching and research around issues of sustainability and low carbon. We have proactive policies to encourage cycling and use of public transport, and to use energy and manage waste disposal responsibly.

University staff can access the online tool on the 10,000 Actions website.
