Come along to the University’s annual Community Festival and tell your family, friends and neighbours join us too for what promises to be a great day for all the family. There will be so much to do. Whether you are young or old, interested in science or art, want to get hands-on and have fun or just want to find out more about the plethora of work that takes place at the University, join us for a fun day of family activities.

On Saturday 10 June, 11am – 4pm, we’re inviting everyone to go behind the scenes of the University and discover the exciting work taking place here. This free event has something for everyone – hands-on activities, tours, live experiments, sporting challenges, creative art, face-painting, the chance to meet with our staff, students and community partners…and much, much more!

Drop-in, hands-on activities are taking place across the following venues:

  • Manchester Museum – Explore our beautiful new galleries, collections and extraordinary objects of curiosity and wonder…
  • University Place – Uncover the curious world of medicine and biology and explore the creative arts, social sciences and history…
  • Engineering Building A – Explore the fascinating world of engineering, physical sciences and computer sciences…
  • Royce Hub – Discover the wonderful world of advanced materials…

Some of the activities on offer include:

As part of the programme you can attend free drop-in performances including: Music is in our DNA – a musical performance sharing stories of journey, identity and belonging; and An immersive African experience – bringing together the enticing sounds of traditional African drumming and dance with technology.

Take part in story time sessions: Science Story Time and Once Upon a Time: Chinese Fables.

Get hands on with our interactive science activities – discover the wonders of the universe, explore the science of sound or step into a world of virtual reality. Get creative with some ‘found poetry’, pick up a tiny plant or make your own cress head!

We’ve also got playful activities for the Under 5’s in our Outdoor Art Club and the Under 2’s in our Whitworth Babies zone.

You can head outdoors and have fun in our penalty shootout competition, climbing wall and helter-skelter.

Or why not join us on a Heritage Tour of the University and uncover the stories behind our historic buildings and world-changing discoveries.
