Are you passionate about getting girls interested in STEM? Are you are female PhD student, researcher or academic working withing a STEM discipline?

This year’s Dragonfly Day, an on-campus event for Year 8 and 9 girls, will be held on Wednesday 13 February. Running from 9.30am to 3pm, the event provides these pupils the opportunity to work with female scientists, engineers and mathematicians in order to find out more about studying and working in STEM. The event will begin with introduction to STEM, and will include a speed networking activity, two short interactive workshops and will be finished off with a short guest lecture from a female academic.

16 female volunteers currently studying/working within STEM at the University are needed to participate in the speed networking activity, which will begin at 2pm and will finish at approximately 2.45pm.

• This activity will allow the pupils to have a chance to speak to different students, staff and professionals working in STEM-related fields and find out more about what they do.
• The pupils will be spilt into groups of four, and will have 5-10 minutes with a volunteer.
• Discussion will include the volunteer briefly describing their research, how they became interested in the field, how they got to where they are now, etc. There will then be a few minutes to allow the group to ask questions.
  After the time is up, the group will move on to the next volunteer.
  Each volunteer will have 4-9 groups over the course of 45 minutes.
